NWI Outreach

Northwest Indiana—including Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, and Jasper Counties—is home to nearly 485,000 residents, with
two children on a pier holding hands
approximately 100,000 school-aged children.

The need is real. According to RAINN:
  • A child sexual abuse report is substantiated every 9 minutes
  • 2 out of 3 victims under age 18 are 12–17 years old
  • 34% of victims are under the age of 12

Prevention Education

Fair Haven RCC’s primary prevention program is dedicated to protecting children and empowering communities through high-quality, research-based education. Our program uses evidence-based curricula vetted and approved by the Indiana Department of Education, designed to teach safety and prevention to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Curriculum Overview

We proudly use the Monique Burr Foundation’s Child Safety Matters® and Teen Safety Matters® programs. These flexible curricula allow us to serve schools with diverse schedules and needs.
  • Available in 2- or 4-day sessions based on school preference
  • Offered in-person or virtually (in-person is strongly recommended for better retention)
  • Aligned with best practices in prevention education
Our School Education Advocates tailor the format and delivery to fit each school’s environment while maintaining program fidelity.

Our Commitment to the Community

We are actively working to:
  • Support and collaborate to strengthen prevention programming in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte Counties.
  • Reach marginalized, at-risk, and underserved populations across Northwest Indiana.
  • Assist schools in meeting the requirements of Indiana Senate Bill 355, which mandates age-appropriate, evidence-based child abuse prevention education in schools.
Fair Haven RCC will continue to collaborate with state agencies that are also providing school-based prevention education and remain an active contributor to the Indiana Prevention Education Coalition.
