SAAM Movement Mentor: Erin Merryn
Fair Haven’s Education & Outreach Coordinator Shana, chose Erin Merryn as a champion for her work in child sexual abuse prevention. March 2017, the North Township Trustee Frank J. MrVan hosted a “No More Secrets Symposium” where Erin shared her story and encouraged Indiana to speak up for children and pass Senate Bill 355, Erin’s Law, requiring schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention education to students EVERY YEAR…and Indiana passed the bill.
Erin Merryn- Author, Activist, Speaker, wife, mother, and force behind Erin’s Law was voted Glamour Magazine 2012 Woman of the Year. Her books, Stolen Innocence, Living for Today, and An Unimaginable Act, detail the sexual abuse she endured from ages 6-13 and finding her voice so she could disclose her abuse and also become an activist for change. Erin has been traveling state to state testifying to lawmakers to pass Erin’s law for 7 years. It is currently passed in 37 states as of January 2020.
Shana is proud to join the movement and be a part of the solution to ending child sexual abuse in our community through our education program, entering the schools and sharing this empowering message to children “Your body belongs to you. All unsafe secrets must be told. It is an adult’s job to keep you safe!”
